Has anyone ever had a breast reduction? If so, could you please help me with a few questions I have?

Hi, I will be getting a breast reduction in a few months. I plan to discuss most of this with my surgeon but I would like some insight from someone who has actually been through it.

- Anything I should do to prepare for the surgery?
- I have to go to another city to do the actual surgery, how soon will I be able to fly back home? If I need to remain in the city for a few days will I be ok to just stay in a hotel room by myself or should I trouble a family member to let me stay with them?
- Do I get to choose what size I want to go down to? (This surgery is going to be covered by health insurance and is due to back and neck problems, not doing it for cosmetic reasons)
- Will I be able to breast feed when I eventually have children? (an answer from someone who has successfully breast fed after the surgery or knows someone who has would be nice!)
- How long is recovery period? Very painful or only mildly painful?
- How do scars look years after?
- Problems with gaining the weight back (in the breasts) later on?

I know the results vary from person to person but any insight you can give me is much appreciated! I don’t know anyone who has actually had a breast reduction and I’d like some information from people who have been through it themselves. Thank you so much for any help you can give me!

Not really, if you don’t have someone to help you out (mother, husband, etc), i suggest putting things in small containers on low shelves. you won’t be able to lift your arms above your head or lift anything greater than 5lbs while you are healing.

you should probably have some one to stay with you. it will be much easier for you.

they will need to remove a certain amount to be covered, but after that you can go smaller if you like.

- Will I be able to breast feed when I eventually have children? (an answer from someone who has successfully breast fed after the surgery or knows someone who has would be nice!)
my doctor told me there is no reason why i shouldn’t be able to. technology has changed, they no longer removed the nipple. they now just cut around the skin and move it.

- How long is recovery period? Very painful or only mildly painful?
the drive home from the hospital was bad and the first night was uncomfortable. but painkillers helped alot. after a week i went back to work, after a month i was back at the gym doing non bouncing activities (treadmill and stationary bike), at 2 months i went on vacation to the islands (cleared by my doctor) at 3 months i was able to resume all normal activities.

- How do scars look years after?
i am a little over a year post surgery and you can barely see the scars,. my doctor had me put paper tape over the scar line to keep them flat and thin and it did wonders.

- Problems with gaining the weight back (in the breasts) later on?
i have not gained any weight since i had the reduction so i can’t say if i did if it would go to my breasts and i don’t plan to find out.

Am I selfish for wanting a breast lift/reduction?

For some reason, I’ve been ‘blessed’ with really ugly boobs.

One is a D, the other is an E. They’re both really droopy and the nipples point down.

I’m 22, in decent shape, and I hide this situation under my bra. Since no one can tell I have this ‘problem’, they just see this ‘perfect’ girl, and always give me compliments like "oh, you’re so tall, your hair is so luxurious, your eyes are so beautiful, you have a great complexion, you’re so lucky to have big boobs (It’s a great bra, actually)".

I’m happy other people think I look okay, but all I can think about is if they found out what I look like with my clothes off they’d be singing a different tune. Especially when they probably think I look so great. I just wear flattering clothes and good bras. I haven’t even gone to any public swimming areas because of my breasts for years (since I was 12).

I was pissed off at the powers that be for a long time for giving me ugly boobs, especially because as a kid I remember wishing to stay small chested. I accept it for what it is now.

But I’ve been reading on the net, and a lot of people say that it’s ’selfish’ to want cosmetic surgery. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this, and I’d like some input. Am I being selfish?

you are not being selfish at all. do what is best for you. that is the most important thing. i had a breast reduction last year. i had a great experience and i love the results. i am more comfortable with my body than i was and i don’t try to hide it now.

If you were (or ARE) married to a Plastic Surgeon; the doctors that do breast implants, rhinoplasty, breast & stomach reductions, and many other medical or cosmetic surgeries, would they do any surgeries they want on you free? Also if they can, would he even want to? Would it be SO awkward to have him do your surgery? I dont know why, but when i think about it i think its awesome but also awkward…

What qualifies as a "Morale Booster" in the USAF?

A friend and fellow USAF wife had recently gotten a breast reduction after having a baby, which was completely free, (according to her) and she said the reason was it qualified as a "morale booster." My question is what would qualify as a morale booster, and how can I go about applying for this?
P.S. it is not for any cosmetic surgery – it is for repair work that is effecting my health.

Making them bigger would certainly boost someones’ morale!
But seriously if you have verifiable health issues you do not need to "quallify". They will take care of you.

thinking about a nose job but, i don’t really believe in it.?

I have kind of always been against cosmetic surgery unless it was breast reduction, but lately i am growing to hate my nose more and more and have thought i would like to change it but at the same time, it goes against what i believe but, im starting to fall out of those beliefs. i don’t really know what to do. anyone else have this problem? what did you do? how much does it cost? are you happier now with your nose job?
i guess its just annoying cause ever since i can remeber people point out "there is some dirt under your nose" but i have a dent in it and the shadow makes it look like there is dirt on it. i get that comment all the time, its starting to drive me mad. it didnt bother me for a long time but then it started to make me stare at my nose alot and hate it more and more. its crooked too. i most likely wont get a nose job just cause its so much for such a small change but i just wanted to know peoples thoughts on the topic.

I think some people should be more preocupied with fixing there car or buying there boyfriend valentines day gifts and stuff. Im guessing your the type of girl that just nit picks stuff but is really beutiful and is just looking for atention. Your just wasting every really ugly girls time in here with your dumb "pretty girl" problems.

Paying for plastic surgery…?

I’m in the process of getting some plastic surgery. A breast reductiion and a tummy tuck to be exact. My breast reduction is covered by insurance but of course, the tuck is cosmetic and I will have to pay for it. I will need to put it on a credit card. can anyone suggest any with no interest for a year or something with perks. The procedure will cost about $7500 and I was looking into pay for it other than outright (cash or check). Any ideas? Serious answers only. Adults with experience with this are welcome to answer. I am in great need of breast reduction. I am 46 years old and had back surgery 8 months ago. I still have a lot of back pain. My breasts are just way to big and I feel that I am more prone to breast cancer because of the denseness of them. Is there any surgeon in western washington that accepts medical coupons for this procedure. This is not for cosmetic reasons but so that I will hopefully feel better. I have discussed this with my doctor and she agrees this would be beneficial for me. Thank you

I don’t know about the medical coupon part, but I had one done at Group Health in Seattle. The plastic surgeon did an EXCELLENT job and I couldn’t be happier. It was truly one of the best things I have ever done. Give them a call…and good luck!

Elementary statistics short exercise?

Hello,

I understand that this is the very basic of math but still, I am not able to figure this problem out. I started my first statistics class last night, I have very poor knowledge of math but I really need to understand everything from the beginning.

The problem is the following:

The Usa Today-Type chart shows the most frequent cosmetic surgeries for women in 2003.

- Liposuction 21%
- Breast augmentation 18%
- Eyelid surgery 14%
- Breast reduction 9%

(a) If women had 1,548,000 cosmetic surgeries in 2003, how many of them were for liposuction?
(b) How many were for eyelid surgery?
(c) What percentage of surgeries are not accounted for in the graph?

If possible, I would like an explanation of how to do it. I am not interested in the results themselves, but on the procedure. The teacher last night was lecturing on frequency and relative frequency. Thanks a lot.

We are assuming that it is one woman, one surgery otherwise it gets tricky!

To calculate a percentage you multiply by the number and divide by 100. So for part a , the number of women who have had liposuction is 1,548,000 x 21 / 100 = 325,080

Same process for part b, eyelid surgery. You can work that one out!

In total there is 100% to account for so for part c you just add the other numbers up and take that number away from 100. i.e. 100 – 62 = 38%

Tulsa,OK area & advice on breast reduction?

I live in the Tulsa, OK area and I am seriously considering breast reduction/lift. I have lived with 38 H breasts for way too long and want to get them reduced. The pain while I am pregnant in my back from them when they start growing is almost unbearable and only marginally bearable the rest of the time. Anyway, I am 24 and I have had two children and I would like to consider the surgery within the next 2 years if at all possible. I would like to know anything that I can possibly find out about it really! Any advice at all would be very helpful! My husband thinks that I should just get the lift done but if I’m going to go through surgery for a large amount of money I would rather go all the way with it. (He won’t mind anyway I’m sure=)
Like I said, I live in the Tulsa area so I wondered of anyone had had the reduction in that area and had any doctors they would recommend for the surgery? How much did it cost? What size were you before/after? Did they tell you to lose weight before hand? What was your pain like? How bad did you scar? I have large areolas too, did they resize yours or do they do that at all? Did you feel better after you had it done as far as how heavy that they had been?
I would really like to know anything that would help from someone who has been through this already. I probably will try to lose some weight before I have it done, but losing weight has never helped my breasts get smaller so I know that would only help the other parts of me. This isn’t really a cosmetic issue (my husband loves them), but it would help my self confidence not to have huge sagging breasts anymore.
