How would I go about claiming cosmetic surgery as reconstructive cosmetic surgery so that it will be covered?

I need a tummy tuck
I need a tummy tuck b/c I gained alot of weight, then lost 100 pounds, then got pregnant, then lost the weight again.

Here’s the problem with your clever little plan: Insurances, when they cover this procedure, pay only a fraction of what cosmetic surgeons charge. So even if you get your insurer to pay, you’re not likely to find a surgeon who will accept their paltry offering.

You might try looking into a university center with a plastic surgery fellowship training program. They may let a resident work on you for what insurance pays. Private practice guys aren’t in the business of losing money, and that’s what happens with insurance – their payment may not cover the cost to the surgeon.

Good luck, though.

  1. Did you have a baby or lose weight suddenly?

I anesthetize patients for a plastic surgeon in private practice. We’ve had this issue come up.

  3. If you also suffer from an abdominal hernia,(many who have a tummy tuck must also have a hernia repair.) your insurance may pay for that part of the surgery, but this is just PART of the overall cost.
