if someone is planning to to a cosmetic surgery and is going to need more than a week to recover, Does your employer have to know what you are getting done, Will disability insurance pay you will the time you are out. how do people go about keeping ther jobs and getting enough time to recover without loosing there jobs?
Just say that you’re getting surgury, or a medical procedure done, and thats all.
If they ask just say its a very sensative topic and you care not to talk about it.
I believe he would need to know the fact " you’re getting surgery done and require time to recover afterwards" I do not believe the employer need know more than that except when you expect to return to work.
The insurance carrier may require the details but not the employer, in my opinion.

Well, where I work, short term disability works like this. You need surgery. You pick up the paperwork, take it to the doctor, and the doctor fills it out. We don’t get it back, we just get something from the insurance company stating so and so has been approved from such and such date.

Its no ones business what you are having done. You simply tell them that you are having surgery and need the time off. If they ask for what, you tell them its a personal matter and that you don’t wish to telegraph it around the office. Assure them that you are all right, but its something that needs to be done. As far as disability insurance, I’m not sure about that. You also have the doctor write you a letter telling your employer how much time you need to take off. He can write it without revealing what you are having done.
